Wet Wraps for Hands and Feet
Wet wraps are a simple treatment method used in the management of skin inflammation in eczema and other skin disorders.
Step-by-step Instructions
After bathing, pat the skin dry gently
Apply moisturiser, like dermeze ointment, to the whole area.
Apply the prescribed topical steroid to all active eczema. This is usually diprosone ointment or similar.
Prepare Wet Layer
Ensure you have the appropriate-sized cotton gloves or socks.
Soak garments in warm water (a cap of QV bath oil can be added to the water).
Wring out until damp (not dripping).
Apply over moisturisers and topical steroids
Add a Dry Layer
Place dry layer (dry layer of cotton gloves or socks) over the top
Leave on overnight, or if using in the day leave on until both layers are dry (about 2-4 hours)
Tips:
Use wet wraps up to 1-2 times daily during severe flares, or once or twice a week for maintenance
Always wash wraps or garments between uses. Aim to have a number of sets to use to minimise washing
Regular white cotton gloves from the supermarket can be used, or plain white socks for the feet
